Samantha Togni

DJ | Producer | Promoter | Teacher

Samantha Togni is a London-based DJ, producer, promoter, mixing engineer and teacher at London Sound Academy. She is possibly one of the busiest artists in London juggling multiple jobs which at the moment, have been put on pause. However she remains busy with production and mixing at home, as well as rescheduling her Boudica parties which explore the more hedonistic and weird side of electronic music. The series is run by womxn and non-binary folk and aims to give visibility to female and non-binary artists with the likes of Tasha, Jamaica Suk, Anabel Arroyo, Melania and many more playing at the event. Ahead of the party, she usually invites a guest from the line-up to play on her Threads radio show.

Samantha is also part of the Inferno collective that combines ‘the camp with the underground, pop with techno and the good with the bad’, the essence of which is captured in the below photo…

Where was this photo taken and why did you pick it?

This photo was taken at Inferno couple of years ago, me and my friend Chema Diaz where doing a B2B set playing Hard Dance and Hard Trance all night long, we had the best time. Inferno is my second family and this picture really makes me miss the time when seeing your friends and being a ghoul were totally normal.

What are you listening to at the moment if you’re working from home or if you’re still working out in the world, do you have a soundtrack to accompany your journey?

This is my 15th day at home, I have been on a musical journey since.

I have been writing a lot of new music at the moment, currently working on few remixes, my own album which I will release at the end of the year and also an upcoming mix for a certain French hard techno collective. The latest mixes I really enjoyed were by Hadone on Reclaim Your City and Tasha B2B Blasha & Allatt on Rinse FM! But for something more soothing, Hatis Noit’s latest mix on Crack.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed or anxious, do you have a go-to track or style of music that significantly lifts your spirits?

Staying positive and hopeful have been quite challenging these days, I live with my close friends and I feel so lucky about it. When we are not having a great time, we have been gathering in the living room watching music videos including Crazy Town, Bomfunk MCs and anything that screams 90s or 2000s.

How do you intend on celebrating once we’re out the other side?

I literally can't wait for the first party, I miss my friends and can't wait to break the two meters social distancing when it's all over. So many parties I was meant to play have been postponed including the one I run called Boudica at The Pickle Factory, no doubts I will be throwing that one as soon as we got our freedom back.

Any tips on how to look after your mind and body during this slightly stressful time?

I have been starting my day by meditating for 30 minutes and I make sure I work out everyday. That makes such a difference to me and my mental health. I have been trying to be more kind towards myself and do at least one thing per day away from the screen that makes me happy, I am a workaholic and my job is my life, sometimes I find it really hard to disconnect. I have been reading and spending time with my flatmates away from unnecessary news, they have been playing with my mind when I first started self-isolating. I am checking in with my family and friends everyday and overall staying positive and concentrating on all the good things I have in my life.
